Woopra 1.2 RC2 Released for Testing

Woopra News, July 29th, 2008 by Lorelle VanFossen

The Release Candidate 2 for Woopra has just been released. This is not yet a stable release, so beta testers are requested to download Woopra 1.2 RC2 and report in the forums on your findings.

To install the Release Candidate, download the new version and install it over the older version of Woopra on your computer. It will now work with Java 1.5 and 1.6, which means Mac users can now use Woopra on their older operating systems.

Here are some of the new features and improvements so far, with more on the way.

  • Woopra will now work with Java 1.5, so expect Mac users with older operating systems to cheer and join the rest of us testing Woopra.
  • The Woopra main dashboard “home” view is improved and will showcase the Woopra Blog and a summary of your websites.
  • Major improvements in speed, stability, CPU performance, and less memory leaks and crashes, with even more efficient code coming your way.
  • Woopra Connection Handling for servers.
  • Ability to add your logo to the Woopra map.

Remember, this download is only for those willing to put Woopra through the ringer during this testing phase. Please report all bugs and problems (or positives) in the Woopra Forum.

we still don’t know the cost, and we still can’t test the software with large sites

    @ sambeckett:

Many large sites are still testing Woopra knowing that they will only see the first 10K in traffic. As Woopra is in beta, their input is invaluable to helping make it stronger and stable. We have a very few very large sites that are testing it at the higher traffic levels, too, and their feedback has been of tremendous help.

As for the cost, it’s free now, and works. So test away before the paid models come out in a few months. Nothing to lose! A lot of web analytics lessons to be learned in the interim.

thanks for the feedback Lorelle. I hit 10k limit in under 10 minutes. In that time it is almost impossible to test anything, as most of the data is moving to fast, we need a pause button. I would test if I could, but with such a low limit it is rather pointless to keep the javascript activated all day if all the data is simply ignored. do you have any high page view testers? if so I would love to be a part of that club. thanks

    @ sambeckett:

We have some very high traffic sites putting Woopra through the paces. Some of the most popular and high traffic sites on the web. Their high demand on the servers is teaching us a lot about how to handle all the various traffic demands, and we are working closely with Layered Tech and 3Tera to make improvements daily during this testing phase. What they are doing with the servers is amazing!

Thank you for your patience, your offer, and your continued support of Woopra. We will be opening it soon to everyone, and having a fee schedule in place, so stay tuned for news.

May I make a suggestion? This app totally ROCKS! I absolutely love it and I can see tremendous potential in many avenues that would make it a staple in the network admin’s diet. I’ve always been a fanatic of analytics, graphics and cartography. I think “Analytic” should’ve been my middle name! :) I would like to suggest implementing the Google Maps API into Woopra! Having the live global view of who’s on your sites is great, but think about taking it a step further by being able to beef up the GeoIP function to be able to call the Google Maps API to launch a live map or satellite view from anywhere within Woopra to see photographic imagery of your site hits all the way down to the “street” view! Next best thing to being there! I have many more ideas just as exciting as this one, but one step at a time. I wouldn’t want to overwhelm you! :) I’m also available to assist in any way I can on this project as I’m currently self-employed and am very flexible as my time is concerned. I used to be the Global IT Problem Manager for the Coca-Cola Company HQ in Atlanta and I enjoy a technical challenge. Right now I’m running a 5-star telecommunications service/installation business which is very taxing on me physically and at 42 years old, I know it won’t get any better. So I am looking to get back into the IT office environment, which I enjoy doing more anyway. Think about my satellite idea and let me know what you think about my offer. Feel free to contact me if you like and you can check out my customers’ reviews at the links below. Thanks.

Thanks for the endorsement and the offer. We will be looking to hire help in the very near future and will keep you mind, however, I removed the links for privacy reasons - not a good thing to publish outside of the comment form and inside the comment box. :D

Be sure and pitch in on the Woopra Support Forum as we may hire first from within the community of active beta testers and members.

As for the Google Maps API integration, that’s come up many times in the feature requests. It’s a great idea. We’re eager to get the API and its documentation finished so third parties can start coming up with novel add-ons for Woopra. Can’t wait! There are so many creative ways Woopra can be accessorized.

    Thanks!
