Woopra Beta Registrations to Close Soon
It hasn’t been long since I gave the September State of the Union address, and reported that we were monitoring over 40,000 sites. At this time we have almost 45,000, and we are planning to close the registrations when we hit 50,000 sites (which could be any day now).
It’s likely that once we close the registrations there will be some commentary around the Web regarding this move, so I wanted to let everyone know in advance that it’s coming so there are no surprises.
The rationale for closing the beta is as follows:
- A 50,000 site “beta” is certainly a big enough sample to work through bugs and take suggestions.
- We have a number of projects underway that we need to turn our attentions to temporarily and this will allow us to focus on core improvements as opposed to continual expansion.
- We continue to hear from the community that you’d like more personalized attention, and pausing the site additions will ensure against further dilution of our current limited resources.
Once we’ve made progress on client updates, bug fixes, and feature requests - including a campaign management system, SSL support and a billing system - we will move into the next phase of our development.
At that time, the current approval system will be replaced by a personal invitation system in which current Woopra users will be given the opportunity to send invitations to friends and family.
Such a system will allow us to issue only as many invitations as we have infrastructure deployed to handle, and thus ensure that service levels are not degraded by overpopulation of the systems.
On a personal note, when we initially unveiled Woopra at WordCamp Dallas (at the end of this lecture) just 6 months ago, we never could have anticipated the amazing amount of support that you have all given us. On behalf of Elie, Jad, Lorelle and myself… Thank you!

Hello,
I just noticed in your Twitter that you are closing Beta testing approvals. I submitted my website for approval on October 5 but it has not been approved yet. Did I sign up in time or will my website never be approved?
October 9th, 2008 at 8:31 am
I might be approved after the beta testing is done.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Congrats on the numbers Woopra! I can’t say I fault you for closing the beta. 50K is certainly a large beta group. Anybody who is upset about this should just think about how much more time will be focused toward improving an already great system, and the benefits that you’ll see sooner.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
I don’t think it will take long to hit your goal. As word spreads of your service more people have found it’s one of the best metric reporting systems out there. Good luck on the future.

Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to help test-drive your software. I can safely say I am beyond impressed! Woopra is simply the best stats program out there. I’d like to thank you again for this chance to use it and hope I can be of help as you move forward with this project.
Killer, just… rockin.

[...] According to John, the Woopra King, beta registrations will be closing once the total number of sites hits 50,000. Currently roughly ~ 45,000 websites are being monitored and recorded, which is a huge enough sample to remove any outlasting bugs that may reside in either the application or the structure of the servers itself. So if you still want in, sign up now at Woopra! Otherwise you will have to wait for the offical release. No Comments | Leave a comment » No comments yet. Thanks for the chance to be Beta tester. I really enjoyed tracking some of my sites with Woopra. Yes, I said enjoyed cause it brings a lot more fun (and insights) to the so important web site analytics. So to say great visualizations, real time tracking, sharing etc.
Once again, Thanks! Looking forward to work with yours and share my experiences with my clients.

I would like to say Thank You to you Brian for accepting my sites. It has been a wonderful program being able to see the live stats and helping me knowing my visitors better. Since I installed Woopra, it has contribute a lot by allowing me to research the keywords, exit page etc and this way I can cater the need of my visitors. Sales has been going up and site has gotten PR in a short time. This is because I can analyze the traffic live and made appropriate adjustment to the site so my user are happy.
Again, million thanks and wish you good luck!

Thank you Woopra people for a wonderful Analytics tool. It is especially useful for my small consultancy business, which does not have high traffic. So every visitor is important to us. I especially love to hear the Event Notification Alert sound and to view in real time each visitor activity. I hope Woopra will be blessed more and more and more.
October 10th, 2008 at 8:19 am
I am very pleased that there are so many that see the value in this amazing program as I do.
I feel privileged to be a beta tester for this incredible program. The real time information allows me to make adjustments to my sites on the fly. Today, every customer counts. For a small business like mine, the timely information that I receive is vital to my not missing business opportunities.
Thank you for this wonderful program.

Thank you for letting me in just under the wire on the Beta Woopra. I am a pastor and my site has no commercial interest. With the few sermons that I have placed on my site, it is wonderful to see people from all over the world looking at them and reading entire series of sermons. You program helps me to see that even while I am cutting the ZZZZssss, ministry and worship continues around the world.

@ dawmail333:
We understand that annoying issues come with beta testing. That’s part of the responsibilities beta testers take on when they choose to do so. Woopra adores all of our beta testers and will continue to support them in the future as best we can. Your feedback has been invaluable and much appreciated.
October 13th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Thank you for accepting my website, this tool allows me to see who visited my site and seeing that people are actually coming to my site actually motivates me to keep up my blog. Once again thank you for accepting my site. Now the only problem is that it’s so addicting
October 13th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Wow! Congrats Woopra! I must say, hands down woopra is the best analytics program out there. Keep up the good work, and thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of it!
October 13th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Hi,
I was just wondering that after closing the registration, will it be paid? of if no.. what procedure should be followed to register it? And also after closing the registration how much time it will take for new users to register you site.?
October 14th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
@ IP:
When Woopra comes out of beta testing , it will have a free version and then various tiered payment plans for different levels of user needs. We’ll have full details made public when they are finalized.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
I hope this is not longer time to waiting for Woopra registration…..
Thanks
October 15th, 2008 at 10:07 am
@ dewabenny:
Longer waiting? Once we have closed registrations, there will be no more registrations until Woopra moves through this next phase of testing. It shouldn’t be very long. With 50,000 beta testers, the volume of feedback is overwhelming and we want to process the feedback to make Woopra even better. Don’t you?
Thanks for your patience. We will be approving the last batch soon. Get signed up now.
October 15th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Thank you for letting us be part of your beta testing. I love using your program to track our changes. It is a really awesome tool and so useful. Monitoring our site has never been so easy. I haven’t run across any bugs yet but I am using your program daily. The Conversation button freaks people out but is so handy in chatting with people all over the US. They aren’t quite sure what to make of it. Thank you for this awesome tool.

Just wanted to say that Woopra is the best tool I have seen in years. Thanks.
There’s only one thing missing. The ranking of a website in a certain search engine for the keyword that people are finding you for. I think it would require a complete extra module and maybe it’s a bit off-core for most of the users, but that would be the icing on the cake for me. Maybe you can work together with the developers of RankTracker for example to make use of your and their data via an import/export feature.
Anyway, keep up the good work.
Cheers, Henry

What a tremendous tool for market and traffic research! Though, at times, the connections were down - I came away (and still am!) by the product, service and yes… the control panel even looks pretty!
Wahoo!
Great job guys.. and thanks for accepting my site as one of the 45,000!!!!
October 24th, 2008 at 5:06 am
I am pending approval for my site. I would love to get this up and running before you close registrations. Can you help me with this issue?

@ Lorelle VanFossen

October 25th, 2008 at 3:52 am
@ pkvst2:
The final registrations will be coming soon. We have thousands of beta testers to approve and cannot give specific information in each request. We will be approving these all soon and turning our attention back to the code and providing support so we can offer you the BEST version of Woopra we can that will work across all platforms, blogs, websites, forums, and more.
Thanks for your incredible support and patience. We’ll be announcing this soon.
November 6th, 2008 at 11:26 am
While I do understand the logic behind limiting your beta testers, I don’t understand why you don’t clearly state this state of affairs on the woopra website? I found woopra through Google (searching for real time analytics), went through the process of signing up, and only after combing through logs and forums learned that my submission will likely not be approved for months (until you are done beta testing). I think that’s misleading your potential users, which seems somehow rather unpleasant …
November 6th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
@ void64:
Sorry if you don’t understand the concept of beta testing. Woopra has been covered by most major tech magazines, ezines, and websites, including hundreds and hundreds of blogs. It has a huge social media following, which we adore as we are developing a brand new product and the instantaneous feedback has been incredible and often hard to keep up with.
Like most private beta testing services and products, we restrict the number of beta testers to control the testing and not expose the general public to the issues associated with beta testing. We approve beta testers when we have resources available. Most beta tests include only a couple hundred testers. We have over 50,000. All of us are working very hard to make Woopra the best it can be before we open it to everyone. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

November 9th, 2008 at 4:02 pm

Not yet, but soon. Get signed up now.
November 13th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Hi there!
I signed up to be a tester on November 8 and my site is still “Pending Approval.” Of course, if it’s closed already that’s just my bad luck (50,000 is a HUGE number for beta testing!), but is there any way to know? If I can’t get in I totally understand, but I do want to start analyzing my traffic with other software if I can’t.
Of course, given the rave reviews, once you’re finished with testing I’ll come back and sign up again. Thanks so much!

One thing I hope to see is if you do start charging for the Woopra service is that you let us that helped spread the word (I’ve had about 600 or so joomla sites owners sign up) That you let us have some sort of affiliate program so we can either make money or get woopra for free.
December 5th, 2008 at 10:46 am
@ Matthew Murphy:
We are exploring all these options.
December 16th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Is it now not possible to add domains to the beta testing? I already have one domain added and would really like to try Woppra out on one other.
I too am interested in any affiliate programs you might be offering… so far Woopra has proved so useful its hard to imagine going live with a website without it!
cracking piece of work!

@ bizzim:
You will be able to do all of that, once Woopra is out of beta testing. Stay tuned for news.

Happy Happy New Year ! 2009 is here and I would love to start it off with a BANG!
I have applied, got my confirmation email Downloaded my Joomla Plug-in and have installed it in all of my Joomla 1.5 sites and have other site that I am ready to install in as well. I have been a beta tester before (Lindows) and am a QA tester in internet banking currently, write test plans, cases as well as execute and report bugs using JIRA. I would love to be a contributor / tester.

Nice Work you are doing!
