SSL Tracking Now Available in Woopra
One of the most requested features for a while has been the need for SSL support. It’s especially important for clients running e-commerce sites who wish to track users through the site and all the way to transaction completion. Well, we’ve got some great news. Woopra now supports SSL encrypted sites!
There is one important caveat to get SSL tracking to work. You must update your Woopra tracking code to the latest version which can be found on your Member’s Area page.
Since SSL has now been enabled, I would like to remind developers that it’s possible to take advantage of our open API to pass real-time information to the Woopra client while tracking users in the Live view. For Example, the e-commerce engine could be made to output variables to Woopra using a very simple format such as:
<script type=”text/javascript”>
var woopra_visitor = new Array();
woopra_visitor['name'] = ‘John Smith’;
woopra_visitor['email'] = ‘john@smith.com’;var woopra_event = new Array();
woopra_event['sale'] = ‘Baby Buggy - $129.99′;</script>
We need a few people to give it a try and give us some feedback, so if you’ve got SSL on a site and have been waiting to give Woopra a shot at it, now is the time!

Sorry for this offtopic comment:
I really love Woopra and I like the fact that you’re constantly improving the wordpress plugin. But in my opinion you guys publish new versions too frequently. It seems to me that I have to update Woopra for Wordpress on a daily basis
Best,
Markus

Tracking of SSL sites - great! That’s the only feature I was missing in Woopra…

@ Markus:
Thank you. However, remember that Woopra is in beta testing and it is normal for updates to come out much faster than traditional non-beta products. That’s how we keep the beta process flowing out to our beta testers. Compared to most development projects of this age, we are slow to release. But as we get closer to moving out of beta, expect a LOT more updates and releases.
Also remember that updates to the desktop client are automatic and happen when you close and reopen the program. You have no need to do anything other than that. Updating a brand new WordPress Plugin barely a couple months old as we develop it is a small price to pay when the rest is automatic and no effort.
Thanks again, too, for being one of our beta testers and having patience while we tweak and work on Woopra from all angles. And for giving us the feedback we need to make Woopra even better.

@ flokass:
As has been mentioned repeatedly, we approve beta testers when we have resources available and we are about to approve the last batch soon, then we will be closing beta testing registration for a limited time to concentrate on development and moving out of beta. With more than 50,000 beta testers, we have a huge support group we need to listen and respond to as we continue with development.

For those who are interested, I have updated my Joomla Woopra module to support the latest updates http://www.all-our-email.com - Richard

Thanks for the update, certainly something I was looking forward to.
Now, I don’t know if it was just my installation of the code, but after adding the new code to our site and our checkout pages. I’m certainly not an expert but it seems that IE and Firefox are blocking the script on the https pages. Our site is http://www.TopSleepingBags.com, and I would be happy to help out anyway possible.
Thanks again for the update,

@ dsturgeon:
Have you reported this in the forums? IE and Firefox don’t block scripts, and if they do, they do so because of your individual browser set up. Check that you have installed Woopra correctly. Thanks.

Hi John,
I just wanted to let you guys know that I launched an open source Ruby on Rails gem (plugin) for Woopra yesterday.
It’s available for download here: Ruby on Rails Woopra Analytics Gem. People can find out how to install here: Ruby on Rails Woopra Analytics Gem Installation Guide.
This was my way of thanking you guys for providing such a useful analytics product.
Best Regards,
Jonathan

I think that the “woopra_id” variable is missing in the new Website Installation Code…
I can’t get it working for our site… any help would be appreciated!

Also John, you mention of an “open API” for developers, but I can’t seem to find it on the Woopra website.
Maybe it’s because I can’t find it on your site! Can anyone help me?

Markus: With plugin updating built into WordPress for a while now, is it really that hard to click the upgrade link?

@ tpfs:
The API documentation is nearly completion and it should be out soon. Stay tuned.

Have you checked in the Woopra Forums for help? That’s the place to find it.

Thanks. I’ll add it to the list!

Hi Lorelle,
Our regular website is being tracked just fine.
I found out that my issue is because our eCommerce store is located on a subdomain.
I’ve read that others on the forum had to add the subdomain as a separate website altogether, which I have just done!
Now awaiting approval!
Thanks!

How do I track “goals” or “events” by assigning them values, or orders from my sales, so that I can analyze which traffic sources or keywords are most profitable? So far Woopra still seems like it tracks things but not much analysis can be done from ecommerce pov. … or am I missing something?
December 2nd, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Peter,
We’re working on campaign tracking so you should be able to capture and follow those goals in a future version. Stay tuned.
