I’m pleased to announce that I’ll personally be participating in (and Woopra is helping to sponsor) Startup Weekend Dallas on November 20th – 22nd, at which time we’ll be proposing a project to the group, along with a sizable bounty for successful completion, to build an iPhone app for Woopra.

Startup Weekend recruits a highly motivated group of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more to a 54 hour event that builds communities, companies and projects.

The participants that attend a Startup Weekend decide what they want to tackle over the weekend and come out at the end with several developed companies or projects. Sound intense? It is. You can read all about it here.

Quest for the iPhone App

One of our most requested “features” has been to add iPhone access to the Woopra arsenal. And we’ve received quotes from external partners to have one built, with plans to tackle it in the near future. But after spending some time with Marc Nager, one of the partners at StartupWeekend.org, we came up with the idea of proposing the construction of an iPhone app to the folks at the event as a project.

The goal of the weekend would be to come away with a functional prototype of a live Woopra iPhone application, which could be quickly completed and submitted to the App Store shortly thereafter. If a team decides to take up the challenge, and successfully builds the application, each member would receive a cash reward as well as public recognition from the Woopra community.

I’m very excited to bring this project to Startup Weekend. I believe an enterprising and entrepreneurial team could build an iPhone application that will truly capture attention around the world, and also be a fantastic experience for the participants to make new friends, exchange ideas and do something remarkable.

So, if you are in the Dallas area and you think you have the iPhone app development skills needed to contribute to the project I would encourage you to register for the event. And if you are not able to attend in person, but would like to submit your ideas and volunteer some creativity, please leave comments below of what you would like to see in the Woopra iPhone application.

Features, user interface ideas, sketches, mockups… all will be taken into consideration! If you send ideas that get incorporated into the design, I guarantee you will receive credit for your participation. So what do you say?
