Introducing the New Woopra Web Analytics

After some brief rejuvenation time for our Web Analytics, we’re excited to introduce the brand new Web based version of Woopra for those times when you are away from your desktop but still want to get your Woopra fix! All you need to do is log into your Member’s Area and take a look at your stats!

Keep in mind that this new version is considered Beta so you may run into a few bugs here and there. We’re aware that there are currently a few issues, but we wanted to get it out to you guys so you could start using it right away. We’ll be updating it constantly, so just report your issues on the forums if you encounter any!

Elie and Jad have been slaving away for weeks but the results are definitely worth it! Heck, I’m pretty sure that many people are going to start using the new Web version of Woopra as their primary method of getting stats. And the Web version has a few tricks up it’s sleeve that even the desktop application doesn’t yet possess! And by the way, to answer your question in advance – it does not yet work on the iPad, but that will be available soon… ;-)

A Tour of the New Woopra Web Analytics

First of all, if the new Web Analytics look familiar – they should! Elie spent quiet a bit of time ensuring that the look and feel is similar to the desktop application we’ve all become accustomed to. This should minimize any learning curve associated with navigating the interface.

You’ll find all the familiar features built into the Web application including a dashboard, live view, world map, search functionality, filters and complete historical analytics. Each of these areas has subtle yet important changes as compared to the desktop application.

Woopra Web Analytics Dashboard View

Although the Woopra desktop application provides a Dashboard view that focuses on the aggregate stats for the day, the Web Analytics dashboard focuses more on what is happening now. You’ll notice that all of the tabs give a visual representation based on “Active” pages, referrers, countries, etc.

If that Visitor Engagement tab jumps out at you, it should! This entirely new Woopra feature allows you to see not only how many people are currently on the site, but what they are doing while they are there! Woopra now reports on whether visitors are idle (no mouse or keyboard activity on the page) or if they appear to be reading or writing.

Woopra Web Analytics Map View

In the Web analytics version of Woopra, the live view of visitors is overlaid onto an active Google map. This allows you to drag to recenter the map as well as zoom in and out, but one additional benefit of Google Map integration is that you can zoom into the street level to see precisely where visitors are coming from.

In testing, we’ve found that the location is often accurate to within a few miles of the true visitor location. The distance varies based on where the visitor’s nearest Point of Presence is for their ISP. Click the image below for a short video demonstrating what is possible.

Woopra Web Analytics – Live View

Like the new map view, the Live view has a few tricks up it’s sleeve. Of course, just as in the desktop application we see a continuous live stream of visitors to the site, and it’s possible to select any visitor on listed on the left to focus only on that visitor.

However, the Web Analytics now adds the ability to select multiple visitors simultaneously, and even to “lock” them on screen, so that even if the visitor leaves the site, their information trail persists.

Woopra Web Analytics – Search and Filter

One other area that has seen changes is the Search and Filter function. The process of adding filters is extremely simple in all areas of the Web Analytics client. Simply click on the Add Filter button and choose from a dropdown menu which variable you wish to filter by. In addition, you can implement multiple filters to keep narrowing down the results as needed.

Well, that’s enough for now. We’ll let you guys explore the rest of the interface. If you’ve got suggestions or comments (especially positive ones :-) feel free to drop them below. And you can also follow Elie Khoury on Twitter (@ElieKhoury) and give him feedback and encouragement any time you feel like.

  1. [...] In a post on the official Woopra blog, CEO John Pozadzides announced that the web-based version of the Woopra client is now up and running. Users now have access to almost all of the same functionality of the desktop client in their browser, allowing for those who are out and about to pop in on their blog from another computer to see how things are faring. It looks good and works well. Thanks.

Suggestion – The Visitor Engagement and Active Countries don’t require much width, whereas Recent Search Queries and Active Pages do.

How about moving Active Pages above Recent Search Queries and widening that column and shrinking the Active Countries column?

Unless the columns are adjustable, which is not the case on Firefox 3.6.3 on OS X.

  3. THANK YOU for rolling out this web-based version! In situations where I’m mobile, accessing through computers on the road where I lack the administrative rights to install software, having the capability to quickly check analytics is fantastic.

Was quick to load, moving through the interface was seamless. No complaints nor suggestions from me so far…

    This is great guys! :)

Question – Is there any plan about “Woopra Web Embed API”?
Wouldn’t it be great to embed the widgets that compose the whole Woopra Web 2.0 in your HTML pages or Web Application via API?

    Thank you.

    Andrea.

    • Lorelle says:

Yes it would. Have you looked at our API documents to far? We’ve made a lot of changes to the code under the hood and are revising the API documentation accordingly. We hope to have this out soon. Thanks.

  5. Not working on the iPad …. Nooooooooooo

Cmon guys. Woopra and the iPad are a match made in heaven. Let them make beautiful babies together so I can show off my sites to my friends, and make go go gar gar sounds. Really…

And still no approval on the iPhone app?

    • Lorelle says:

You are right on all accounts. The web version was begun before the iPad/Flash issues entered the world. We’re working on all fronts to encourage all go go gar gar sounds. :D

  6. Thomas says:

Fantastic news. I’ve really been looking forward to this. All I’m missin from Woopra now, is the Android app. Then I would be all set :-)

    Thanks for the great work.

  7. Peter says:

    Great feature, thanks.

But did you test it through a proxy? At work I am using a proxy and the Gui hangs at the status “connecting”.
At home, without a proxy, everything is working fine.

    • Lorelle says:

@Peter: We did some proxy testing and it worked. Hmm. Which browser and proxy service are you using? Did you turn off JavaScript, too? Many proxy services disable JavaScript and Flash by choice or not. The web version requires both.

outstanding.. this is the think we were asking..and now dare to compete with google analytics..

  9. IrvinPhotography.com says:

instead of “visitors” use the same termanology as the client “live”

  10. safcblogger says:

This is only the second day i have been using the web based version and i have to say it kicks butt. I have used other 3rd party solutions before and have trialled a few :)

    If i dare make a suggestion (and if it gets enough take up) through;

Analytics > Search > Search Queries

Is there any chance of having a further drilldown through the keyphrases to segment our visitors further?

Also CSV export of all keyphrases/keywords would be a great addition here.

  12. Is there a way to determine the “State”, not just City of visitors? Also, do you know why the referring sites may not be working on my site? thanks, Jennifer

    • Lorelle says:

Did you report this in the forums? We will be updating the database that brings in geo location data soon.

As for referring sites, they appear to be working on our end. Could you report in more detail in the forum and maybe show us a screenshot so we fully understand the issue? Thanks.

  13. myland says:

how do you save the stats to csv?

    • Lorelle says:

We answer technical support questions in the Woopra Forum. Information on exporting the data from the Woopra Desktop Client is in the FAQ, too. There is an export link in the bottom right corner of any panel on the Woopra Desktop Client. Thanks.

Lorelle, for a while the new Beta was working good for me, now these dates show no action at all:
    June 28, 29, July 1st. ???

  15. I'm the guy in the photo. says:

I didn’t see a Beta thread in the forum.

Lorelle, for a while the new Beta Analytics was working good for me in the beginning…
I do have analytical info showing up on June 26th, 27, and 30th.

But now these dates show no action at all: June 28, 29, July 1st. ?????????????

    This is under Visitors/Overview.

    • Lorelle says:

This is because your account exceeded it’s plan limits. On the Woopra Desktop Client, you can see this in the indicator at the top right area of the site’s panel. Your plan will reset to zero on July 12. If you would like to upgrade your plan, that would be appreciated. Thanks.

  18. Lorelle says:

Good point. We’ll have to ask the community to offer up some examples. Many use a spreadsheet or database to enter in the information and sort it to meet their specific needs.
