Woopra 2.0 Updates and What’s Coming Next
We rolled out another update of the Woopra Web Application today. With more than 200 bugs stomped, we’ve added some great new features, with more on the way.
We’ve introduced a new slick user interface similar to Apple’s look and feel, improving the visual interaction with the Woopra Web Application.
The Live Map information is important and we know you want more helpful information, so we’ve added more visitor details when you click/hover over a visitor pin.
We’ve also worked hard improving the web version for Internet Explorer users. While we understand that you want this to work across all current versions of Internet Explorer, the functionality is very advanced, so we’re got it working flawlessly with Internet Explorer 8+.
However, your best experience using the Woopra web version comes from using Chrome or Firefox. We recommend our users run this application on Google Chrome which has shown in our benchmarks to be 4 times faster than Firefox and more than 10 times faster than Internet Explorer running Woopra.
Coming Next
The Web version is close enough to leave the beta phase, but we know very well that some of our coolest features are yet to be implemented to the web version and we’re readying them for you:
- Notification System: Many rely upon Woopra’s event notification to be alerted when specific events and actions occur on their site. We rebuilt this feature from scratch so that you don’t have to be logged in to get notified. We’re also adding different mediums to get notified (SMS, email, Mobile Push, Desktop, etc…). That’s not everything! We’re also adding a bunch of new filters based on aggregate information rather than just individual actions or visitors.
- eCommerce Tracking: Your requests have been heard and we’re working on adding eCommerce tracking of transactions with our updated Javascript API.
- Funnels & Conversion Tracking: We’ve focused on delivering the best user experience and analytics for bloggers. It’s now time for us to put all our focus on delivering the best analytics solution for businesses. We are going beyond eCommerce transactions to help you track the most advanced analysis of your site’s visitors.
- Campaigns Analytics: Referrers is the most important metric for most of us tracking our social media and advertising campaigns. We’re going to expand our analytics to bring the ability to run campaign analysis not only by Referrer Types and Referrer Hosts & Urls, but by custom landing URLs.
I would love to take this opportunity, on behalf of our team, to thank our users who upgraded their subscriptions, we never believed you could be that many! You gave us the ability to expand faster and bring more people to our family and we shall in return deliver the best user experience, features and support.
Are you using the Web Version yet? Drop us a line and let us know why you do or you don’t.

Are you abandoning the desktop version?
We’re not for sure.
hmm, if I may say, the previous graphical design was 1000000000 times better.
Oh and I forgot to add, I prefer the desktop app, it saves me the time of opening a webpage, it looks better and it has more features.
Thanks for your comments. Can you tell us which features you’re missing in the Web App?
Well the “Analytics” page is not half as good as the one in the desktop app + the dashboard has only one graph… there is no graph for the whole month + the google map is just awful, I like the woopra map in the desktop app much better + the new design of the web app is killing me, before it was cool, now its lame…maybe you could introduce a few themes for us who dislike the current design?
I think the web interface is a great idea! Looking forward to the next batch of improvements. :-)
I really like the web page. And it’s Flash free! Great job.
About the desktop app, it’s the one I use everyday. A desktop app is faster, integrates better and it’s instantly available. Currently is a Java application. I can’t imagine a native Mac app for Woopra :D
Folks , is it possible to increase number of visitors for base account ? please… i have blog , and just half of month i can track with base/free account… would be so nice if you increase the limints in new version of woopra!
thanks!
LOL… There is no limit for number of visitors in free plan or in any plan. The limit is in Page Views so if your pageviews increase BUY ACCOUNT !
Why someone will give you something for free that cost them a money for servers and resouces ?
If you have so much traffic i am sure you can handle to pay 4$ each month for live analytics
Otherwise use Google Analytics.
…and still can’t use on ipad or iphone
Unfortunately, iOS4 still doesn’t support WebSocket which is a key component of HTML5. We’re still waiting for their response and we’ll keep you updated.
Can I be blunt… I don’t like anything that forces me to use a web browser for anything other than quick checking when I’m away from my main PC.. It’s not that I don’t find the information useful but the fact that the desktop application provides a ton more information.
Some key factors.
Desktop App wins out with:
- tabbed indicators of visitor numbers
- much easier to keep open in the background rather than actively monitor
- Pop-ups are far less intrusive and in a place that’s stable unlike in a browser scenario
I can completely understand why you would see a browser as a win-win from a coding point of view but from a gut reaction point of view, if you decide to go all out on browser only I’m going to find it far less useful and will end up changing my whole approach and attitude to the Woopra system.
Actually let me qualify that a bit better… The web interface may have more features in terms of in-depth analysis which are useful for when I want to sit and actively focus on visitors actions, paths, etc…
The standalone application is MUCH more useful to me when I’m working on other things and keeping half an eye open for problems, new orders (ecommerce operation), etc…
I guess what I’m saying is don’t get rid of the standalone system, it’s too ruddy useful for my needs.
We’re not going to stop developing the desktop application. We just want the Web Application to be as useful :) Thanks for your input, very much appreciated.
If I may add, I have pretty much the same opinion and the same reasons I prefer the desktop app. If woopra wsa to stop developing the desktop app I would immediately switch to getclicky.
Is there an update on the Woopra iPhone app?
We will have news on the iPhone app soon. Thanks for your patience.
Hello,
I just wanted to drop by and let you know about the way I use your system.
Desktop App:
First off, I switched to Woopra from one of your competitors based solely on your desktop app. It’s wonderful. I love that I can keep it open in the background and keep tabs open on all of my sites. I currently track 6 sites with it… and will soon be adding 4 more. I really like the live visitor counter on the tab.
Web App:
I’ve almost completely weaned myself from desktop apps in my business. I use everything in the cloud. It’s been a real lifesaver in a lot of instances. Also, with my iPhone and soon my iPad… I can get to everything I need for my business anywhere. Now, with Woopra Analytics in the browser. I can access that too. I have to admit, I don’t use the browser app that much yet… mostly because it’s not avaliable on the iPhone/iPad… but if I’m not at my computer. It’s a wonderful luxury. Thanks for building it.
A question for you:
Is there a way to print traffic/visitor reports so I can send them to clients?
Thank you for the kind words. You can export data from the Woopra Desktop Client and import it into a spreadsheet, doc, or database to showcase the data as you wish. You can also use the email reports to get a “printable” form of data. See more information in the Woopra User’s Guide in the FAQ.
For me one of the greatest strengths of Woopra is the Desktop app and I am glad that the team is still working on it and is not wanting to direct away from it. I also want to say that the Desktop app also, is what has kept me from straying to competitors. Woopra has really locked onto a convenience factor when it comes in that area.
I am fully aware of Fluid for the Mac which lets you capture any web site and turn it into an application and could have done that with other places I have tried, but have not done so because I also have found Woopra’s real-time analytics to be beyond compare. One you go real-time, you don’t want to go back, especially when trying to track conversions and your ROI on your advertising and the results from that. I have literally placed an ad on Craigslist and watched the traffic update in real-time as people jumped into the site.
I am a small footprint user and don’t really go over 10 hits daily on any site that I am monitoring, but even for my small beans, the whole user Desktop App is very important. One thing I would really love to request for the developers – I know it was a decision to restrict simultaneous logins to just one. But can you make it possible (At least for free users), to not log us out of the Application when checking in on the Web app? Perhaps lock in via the user’s IP?
Anyway, keep up the great work guys and I am indeed happy to be a proud user of Woopra!
Just wanted to agree with everyone else above – while it’s ‘nice’ to have a web app to check if I happen to be out of the office, what makes Woopra the best is it’s desktop ap. I use it on my laptop while travelling and it’s always running on a giant 55″ LED LCD at our office on the wall and visitors go nuts for it.
If Woopra were to ever discontinue or stop developing the desktop ap, I’d leave Woopra for. Web ap is NOT what I want for real-time analytics.
I hope you go back to spending as much time developing and improving the desktop ap and your API (excited to hear about better ecommerce tracking) as you have been on the web ap (which currently looks primitive and horrible to use compared to the desktop ap).
Go back to what made me come to Woopra in the first place – your desktop ap and promises of incredible robust API.
Thanks!
patiently waiting for and iPad app or webpage that works on the ipad, until then I’ll stick with the desktop app
Same here. I agree with everyone else above. Woopra is my choice mainly because it is a desktop application. It is nice to be able to leave it running in the System Tray and access it whenever I want.
With the browser version one might accidentally close the Tab by mistake and we all know how Firefox and Google Chrome start to eat away resources if they have been running constantly for a day or so. Apart from that the Desktop Application allows for much more versatility such as Automatic Startup (that would be a pain to setup on a browser), Firewall Rules, etc…
Please keep focusing on the Desktop Application and keep up the excellent work!
Chrome and Firefox SUX!!!!!!!!!!
it’s all about IE & I can’t w8 for IE9
but that aside I never use the web app for thats not y i use woopra
i use woopra for 2 things & only 2 things
1 it does real time stats & thats soo cool :)
&
2 it has it’s own desktop app
I do not like getting that kind info from a web app &
I have soo much going on in my Browsers I really don’t want to add to that.
so if i can keep an eye on whats going on with my site at the same time do my work, i’m happy.
so if you would stop playing around with the web app & come on back to fixing the many bugs in the desktop app
bugs like:
ads cuting off info.
eat up a lot more ram then normal.
“some times” google & other search engine urls end up in referrers box & not show up in searches
load woopra up with more User Agents/ OS info.
hell i would like to see img tracking of users who are running noscript & tracking of bots.
I’m sure more members would want that over some web app
p.s. what ever happend to the iphone/ipod touch app??
I have been w8ing to see that
Dear Elie,
first – my english isn’t very well :D
But I think… if you drop the desktop app, you may lose many people in Germany. We love the desktop app – it’s your USP or the point I get on top und i love it. Many of bloggers I know think the same, too. The most of them have it in a digital picture frame ;)))
Finally, I don’t wanna use woopra without a desktop app – because it’s great :(
best regards :)
I already mentioned it many times. The desktop application will always be a priority for Woopra. Thanks again for letting us know that you prefer the Desktop App.
Very good news for this point:
Campaigns Analytics: Referrers is the most important metric for most of us tracking our social media and advertising campaigns. We’re going to expand our analytics to bring the ability to run campaign analysis not only by Referrer Types and Referrer Hosts & Urls, but by custom landing URLs.
Something getclicky with campaigns and goals is a really great goal for woopra.
At this moment woopra is only one other statics, but I think that isn’t a really analytics software, one time woopra have some improvments like automatic detection of campaigns (same url’s of google analytics like utm_campaign , etc.) and completed goals for see the revenue of a sell or how many downloads have some file, etc… sound great
I will wait for see this improvments working :)
I have completely abandoned Google Analytics because, as their user forums indicate, a lot of users receive very inconsistent statistics. They know a site is being visited but GA doesn’t give any results. I used to compare Woopra to GA and immediately saw all the hits that GA was missing for some reason.
There are a couple of things that I preferred about GA though.
First, GA gave the option of viewing statistics by state whereas you go from country to city. If I don’t know what state a city is located in and it’s not large enough to be recognizable I can’t get a sense of what region is aware of my site. Second, I would prefer it if every piece of data could be right-clicked and analyzed. For example, when I am viewing the statistics for cities I see the number of pages that were viewed but I don’t know which pages these cities looked at.
Thanks, I am definitely going to renew.
Hello all…a little late to this discuss, but my preference is the desktop application.
Sometimes when I’m looking for just a quick “update” while I’m on the go, I’m not inconvenienced with browser “updates and restarts”…yes, I know that it may only take 3-5minutes to do so, but when multitasking a million things while on my way out the door, that’s the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
I hope that you DO keep the desktop app going because since I do work in multiple tabs (between 20-25 on average), with the desktop app, a quick Command + Tab brings it up, I get the info needed, then it’s back to work…versus having to search for the right tab, when I’ve opened, closed, and went to a new site 10 times in 5minutes.
The Desktop is just more convenient. Why do most surfer’s use Google vs Yahoo compared to the days of yesteryear? Because it’s more accurate and faster. In today’s world, convenience is golden.
I like to desktop version
is is easier and faster, It eliminate opening the browser, puting the url or chooese from fav menu, waiting for load time, these are considerable steps which consume up time
