This is a port not even on the standard lists. Is it going to move from this port at some point. 8611 is a very obscure port to be running it from, but its your software, so I will end my rant there. But most network admins won't just open up a non-standard port, even for a good reason such as running this software.

Re: lanieryouth: If you just wants to be notified when a visitor visits your site you can create an Event Notification on the Manage-tab. See the link for a screenshot: http://bittert.net/upload/visit.png

My Comment
I tried it and it works fine. Trouble is the instructions are not clear. When I first tried this feature weeks ago, I thought you had to specify IP or tags etc., but now I see that you basically leave all blank to see any or everyone. So you don't need to go further than the first page. Just give your alert a Name like "All" and click 'Apply Notification'.
Maybe Woopra can make this a bit clearer for future.
So now I don't see any urgency for the System Tray alert, although I suppose it could be an additional feature if it is not too much problem for Woopra.
Thank you Woopra for a great tool.

Yep, just installed the 1.2 beta, found the "Connecting..." problem, did what I did last time, checked our firewall logs, saw 8611 was being blocked, added it as an exception, now it works.

Suggestion: This problem is so commonly reported can the Woopra dev team make sure it's clear in every release what port is used, especially when you change it!!

As Shane pointed out, the latest post on the Blog adds the ability to ignore admin visits to a site.

@sovknight - you complained just hours before the plugin was released that we've been working on for weeks. Please remember that we are working on a large number of projects simultaneously, and this was simply not a high priority as it was not service affecting.

Additionally, the vast majority of people do not mind their admin visits being tracked, and/or still like to see them so long as they can distinguish them from normal visitors.

Cheers,

Does anyone else find this annoying? I mean, it's been several months and several updates of Woopra, and they STILL haven't implemented what should have been one of the FIRST features written into this thing? I'm having issues with the logic of this. No one that I know wants their own visits contaminating their results. Why won't they include this ability?

Limetouchs code doesn't seem to work for me. :(

That port is not blocked from my office. Neither is it blocked at home. When I login in all I get is connecting... Someone else in my office has tried connecting to her Woopra account in the office and it works fine for her. So it has to be something connected to my account. I can get the stats here on the Woopra site when I login to my account, but I can't get the desktop client to work for me anywhere.

The code I provided will not modify any of Woopra's behavior, it simply checks whether an admin is logged in, if he is, then we include Woopra's script, if he isn't, we don't. As simple as that. I am sticking to it until Woopra comes with their own mechanism of blocking traffic from an admin.

It is best to put that code in the footer.php of your WordPress theme. Hope that helps!

For Low traffic people the system tray would be very good. I would very much like this feature myself. You could make it optional so people could enable or disable.
Also, I would like the alert at the top left to be bigger, then I could put other windows over woopra, but leave enough space at the top to still see the alert clearly. Thanks

In order for a visitor to be showing active, their window must actually be open. The Woopra javascript is calling back to the servers every 12 seconds, so until that page is closed we report the time as continuing to increase.

Some people have argued that they aren't interested in "visits" like this because it skews their averages. But technically speaking it is absolutely accurate, and that's what we're shooting for with Woopra.

We'll take a look to see if that is possible, but the problem I forsee is that for people monitoring high traffic sites or multiple sites, the alert will occur so often as to become irrelevant.
