This is crazy...I've been searching for 30 minutes, and I can't find Java for OSX 10.4 SE6. Could it be that apple have removed it since they've posted the Leopard update? Anyone know where I can find this, it doesn't appear to be on the apple download page
http://developer.apple.com/java/download/
or searching on the apple site
http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search&src=support_site.kbase&fac=Downloads&q=java%2010.4%20se6
or on Apple developer connection
http://developer.apple.com/java/download/
I should point out, before anyone says it, that release 6 for 10.4 is not SE6. Arg!

You can make Woopra work under OS X Tiger/Leopard on Intel machines by using SoyLatte.

Here's an short tutorial.

There's this Java6 BSD-port, which is running on 32bit-Mac too:
http://landonf.bikemonkey.org/static/soylatte

I tried it yesterday, but I seem to be unable to set it as the default Java version to use when launching the Woopra installer. Even after setting JAVA_HOME and PATH variables (using Terminal and RCEnvironment), the Installer still complains. After tweaking the plist file, the error message now reads:

"Could not launch the application because it requires a version of Java that is not installed.

This application requires Java 1.6 or later, but only the following Java versions are installed: 1.5.0, 1.4.2, 1.5, 1.4. Updating to a newer version of Mac OS X may resolve this."

Some more information (don't know if it's important): I found out that /usr/bin/java is a link to /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/Current/Commands/java. In /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions, there are subdirectories for all the Java versions - perhaps Soylatte has to be linked here somehow?

I don't know how to solve this problem right now. Perhaps somebody with more experience is able to provide some guidance on how to install the Soylatte 32bit Java6 port.

Regards, Sebastian

Hey guys! After a lot of surfin' the net, I found a great post that allowed me to install Woopra's desktop on my Macbook.

Yes, I installed Java 6 beta from Apple... but there was one other thing I didn't know to do (kept getting Woopra errors after installing)...

Check this site out, it worked for me and it looks beautiful on my Mac!!

I'm just guessing, but I think some of the functionality requires Java6, and it's apple's call on what mac platforms Java6 is released. But then again, i've got a 64bit intel mac so it's not affected me. Sorry guys :(

seriously, Woopra is unavailable to 32-bit Macs because of Java? Wish I'd known this before getting all excited.

I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed that I can't use the Woopra desktop client due to the lack of 32bit support in existing versions of Java 6. My machine is only 1.5 years old and I'm not able to use this (exciting looking) application/service.

To log in I had to type login and password in TextEdit and copy&paste to the textboxes... The chat function also does not accept any typing... :-( Anyone has the same problem?

I did the steps above and the app. still doesn't acknowledge the proper version of java, although everyother java dependent app does. In checking the system, it states the proper version is running as well.

Go to /applications/utilities/java and run the Java Preferences app.

On the General tab, under Java Applet Runtime Settings, select “Java SE 6″. In Java Application Runtime Settings, re-arrange the list of Java versions so that Java SE 6 is the top item.

Once you’ve done that, hit “Save”, and you’re good to go for running Java 6 applications. Remember that this is a beta, so use a bit of caution if you’re doing anything mission critical with it.
