After trying out the user chat feature with my girlfriend yesterday, she brought up a really good point. I did not tell her that I was going to initiate the chat request with her, however when the chat notification came up, she promptly ignored it and closed it.

When I asked her why she did that, and let her know it was me, she pointed out that it looked like a popup / spam. Especially since its a generic message saying something like "The Webmaster wants to chat with you." In this day and age, people are certainly going to react as my girlfriend did and ignore that notification.

My suggestion would to make this message more personal to the specific site. Something simple like changing the "Webmaster" portion to the actual site's name. Or even better, pulling the image used for the notification from the server allowing users to create a custom graphic.

    Just a suggestion.

  • We are working on several levels to improve the chat window. Your input is appreciated, and similar to our thoughts on this fairly new feature. Thanks!

I agree with with Xorsyst, The feedback that im getting from the people that visit my site is that they think its an automated message and not something that somebody actually wants to chat.

It would be cool if the chat dialog included the gravatars of the webmaster and the user to whom chat is being requested. You could also allow a personalized (rather than "generic across Woopra") message. Something styled similarly to incoming calls on skype or an IM client.

    Agree with above.

Suggestion: Create a Woopra "badge" that can be placed anywhere on the web site, then have that badge be where the message from the Woopra user gets displayed. Perhaps the badge should flash when the webmaster wants to chat. That would make it appear less like spam or a virus and more like something legit.

The real solution to this is to have the communication initiated in reverse. Visitors should be contacting admins, not the other way around.

i think that if we could personalize the chat popup the visitors wont get it as spam.

    admin avatar
    poput strings translation
    somekind of customization (color/website logo)

this will improve mutch the system, and i am sure are easy tasks (specialy the "Webmaster wants to start conversation" string)

in my case my visitors dont speak EN...
