Under-Reporting Visitors Since 1.2 Update?

  • Ever since the v 1.2 release earlier this week, Woopra seems to be reporting significantly less visitors than previously. Whereas Woopra used to say we had 10-20% more visitors than Google Analytics on a daily basis, the exact opposite is now occurring.

Has there been a change in how Woopra counts a visitor? Are these numbers more or less accurate? Or is this a bug that needs to be fixed?

Same here, I keep StatCounter running and there are many differences between them, sometimes whole countries appearing on StatCounter and not on Woopra.

In a general way Woopra shows less visitors than StatCounter

  • @mhf - I think that Woopra and StatCounter collect data differently. Woopra uses javascript, which is a more accurate count of actual people viewing actual pages. Other programs (and I think StatCounter is included in this group) use server logs, which lump things like spambots and search engine crawlers into your total visitor count.

@wendypiersall - that may be true to an extent but when I go through the data in StatCounter I can see what comes from spambots etc and what doesn't - again, I have had visits from countries with "genuine" page requests (in the StatCounter statistics) that just don't show up in Woopra.
