What is visits and hits?

Was looking into how Woopra defines what a visit is and what a hit is, but haven't been able to find anything about this yet.

Also is a visit unique and if it is, how long time should there go by before a new hit from the same computer is counted as a unique hit?

I've been trying to find this as well. I did some playing around and when I closed my accessed the site (and logged myself as a visit) then closed the page, then opened the page again without closing the browser it logged another visit, so they are not totally unique visits, but different sessions. I'd love an official confirmation of this, though.
