So everything I've read in the past never allowed Woopra Desktop to install on my Mac. It drove me crazy.

Now it works, and it works beautifully! Here's how:

    Let me know!

Thanks for posting this on the forums. It works and you don't need to reboot.

Running the latest leapord on my Macbook Pro...

    1. Installed non-standard1.6 JVM
    2. Set non standard JVM as default
    3. Rebooted
    4. Edited plist file inside of installer to the right version

And STILL the install tells me it needs JVM 1.6

Thanks for wasting my time Woopra. Alpha status is more like it for this program. Very frustrated and will not be back.

Yup, this brilliant guy solved the problem!

One thing to not overlook is rearranging JAVA so that 6 is on top. This is done in the JAVA app. Don't confuse this with the radio button selection near the top where you will see three choices (you'll know it when you go thru the process). The rearranging is done near the bottom; you need to click and drag 6 and put it above the others.

  • I tried his instructions and they worked great for me - what a relief. One think I noticed, in addition to what Johannes commented on, was that it specifies to copy the dmg file to the desktop, but what you really want is to open that up and right click on the Woopra Installer.app file. If you click on the woopra_macos.dmg and expect to find the "Show Package Contents" option, you may be confused. Open it in TextEdit and then just use Find to locate the line he specifies.

Other than that, I found the instructions very straightforward and helpful. Although I don't have my invitation approved at this point, I do at least have the application up and running, which feels like quite an accomplishment considering how much trouble it looks like other people have had to go to.

Just a quick note about my simplified take on the Jeff McCord instructions:

I downloaded the Woopra installer and the JavaSE6. This version of Java will only install on 64 bit Intel machines (Sorry ol' G5 Tower). I installed it on a tricked-out (full 3.3gb memory and 7200rpm HD) 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacMini that has System 10.5.4.

I checked off the new SE6 in the Java prefs, and rearranged the Java order, following Jeff's instructions for that part to the letter, but I did NOT alter the Woopra installer.

I installed Woopra, typed in my login, and am now watching visitors fly by (I'm up to #338 after about 20 minutes and Saturday is our slowest day). I thought MINT set to update its panes every ten minutes was fun, but Woopra could be even more addictive. It's like comparing cocaine to crack (tho' honestly, I know nuthin' 'bout neither.)

I found this on a recent thread about the latest Woopra release (July 08) from Woopra's "Chief Cat Herder":

" And most importantly... this version is now completely compatible for machines running Java 1.5! So, EVERYONE should now be able to use it! Even older Macs."

Jeff - thank you. The instructions you listed worked just fine. I knew I had the correct Java version but totaly forgot about the pref panel for changing the version.

  • Everyone, the new version 1.2 will run on any platform since it only requires Java 1.5:
