How to Use Analytics

Analytics Overview

Overview

The Live Visitors view and the Search view of Woopra are Micro-level tools. They allow you to see exactly what a visitor was doing and when. Analytics, is a Macro-level tool. Analytics aggregates all visits so that you can generate powerful reports.

To convert a Macro-Level analytics report into a Micro-level view, simply click the small visitor icon on the left for a list of all the individuals who meet your report’s criteria. These lists are valuable for sales, customer support and marketing teams as they allow you to take direct action on your analytics insights.

There are three main components to Analytics reports:

  • The Report
  • The Filters
  • The Date Range

Report Types

The available reports are displayed and can be selected along the top of the Analytics view. Each report lives in a category of reports. There is a matrix of reports below with descriptions. Each report will generate and show different information. For example, the country report will display the top countries that your visitors are visiting from. On the other hand, the bounce report will show how many pages your visitors view before leaving your site.

How to Segment with Filters

The Labels and filters that Woopra uses across all the features are compatible with Analytics as well. These filters let you run a report on a specific segment of visitors.

Segmenting an Analytics Report by Country

We already mentioned the country and bounce reports. But what if you want to know what the bounce rate is for visitors from Japan? You would view the bounce report and add a filter that says “Country matches ‘Japan'”. Woopra will then show you how many pages your visitors from Japan view before leaving your site. Segmenting your visitors is key to generating very powerful and very custom reports that empower you to deeply understand visitor behavior.

How to Change the Date Range

It is important, while generating reports, to verify that you have chosen the date range that you desire. You can select the desired date range with the date range widget at the top right corner of the Analytics view in Woopra. Whether you want information from last week, last month or all of last year, Woopra can get it for you. You can also choose a custom date range by selecting “Custom Date Range”.

How to Create a Custom Data Analytics Report

Woopra automatically builds reports that show you the names of custom events and the names of visitors. These reports are under Analytics > Custom. However, if you want to analyze other custom data you can manually add the analysis. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Analytics > Custom.
  2. Click “Add Analysis”, located at the top right. A box will appear with two text boxes and a radio selection.
  3. In the top text box, enter any name. This name is for your own reference.
  4. In the bottom box enter the exact piece of custom information you would like analyzed. For example, “email” or “transactionid”.
  5. Select whether the information is Custom Visitor Data or Custom Event Data and click “Save Analysis”.
  6. Once you click save, the name will appear in the menu bar to the right of Custom Events. Simply click on the name to have Woopra build the custom report.

How to Export Analytics Data

Woopra allows you to export data from the Analytics section of the web site. Once you have the search results that you want to export, click the Export button at the top right of the web app. You will be presented with the list at the right. The most common export options are XLS for Microsoft Excel and PDF for Adobe Reader. The other export options are Advanced options.
